At a time when death metal needed an airing and fresh blood, they showed up right away and straddled the rest of the stakes. New Zealand's Ulcerate reminded everyone that the essence of the genre is danger, constant exploration and aggression as a means, not the end itself. For years, they have not disappointed. Their technical-dissonant death metal rides at top speed, bubbling with emotion and crushing everything in its path. 

Selbst started out from the position of a band predominantly keen on the dissonant side of black metal. This hasn't changed with them, but in addition to this, progressive metal influences and post-metal spatiality have been added to the puzzle, making the project's blackened magma a veritable wall of sound. Live it works flawlessly.
